How I work

I am no ordinary wedding photographer. My background, personality and flair for putting everyone at ease combine to create a visual story which is both stunning and professional, and looks as though your best friend photographed your wedding.  I never underestimate the importance of your wedding photographs.

I strive to combine my particular style of photojournalism with more ‘magazine-style’ portraits, as well as a small selection of formal group portraits of your choice. I want you to laugh, cry, groan and say 'aaah' when you look through your pictures. I want people who barely know you to 'see' you when they look at them.

My service is no-fuss, no-extra frills. I photograph your day with 100% concentration and attention to detail for as many hours as you want me. I never interrupt proceedings on the day. You enjoy your honeymoon and return to find your photographs ready and waiting for you. I believe the execution of your photographs, as well as the speed with which you receive them are integral parts of your wedding day.

For wedding photography, I have a very simple approach; be everywhere at all times (!) to capture the raucous or romantic moments that create the atmosphere of the day. With enough time, I hope to photograph every member of the guest list, as well as take candid shots of you both together and with your families. I do not stand still, I shoot a minimum of 70 pictures per hour, each shot taking precise thought, but quick framing. However, I am also unobtrusive. Despite being a prolific photographer, I am frequently told by brides, that they didn’t even know I was there!

My style is unique. Having trained as a photojournalist I do not ask for ‘poses’, more encourage people to be themselves, therefore achieving the most natural photographs even in the posed portrait setting. For Group Portraits, I take very straight-forward pictures, understanding that all family members want is a good record of themselves in clear light with nice expressions. Unlike other photojournalists, I understand that the posed portraits are a necessary part of proceedings. I do my utmost to make it fun and efficient so you can get back to enjoying your day.

However, when I start wandering through the reception, my style comes out. I shoot with two cameras at all times – one wide angle for documentary-style shots, one long lens, a beautiful 85-mm which blows the background into a blur and makes everyone look spectacular! I frequently cut the tops of people’s heads off, or go very close on portraits, so you have a range of pictures to look at. Similarly, I am not afraid to tilt my camera or to crawl on the floor, stand on chairs. The more varied the angles from which I take the photographs, the more entertaining the whole package is. I take many ‘detail’ shots of the small things which make up the atmosphere of the day, for example someone's fun shoes or the party favours. I do understand that only a small percentage of the photographs can be ‘artsy’! You will not end up with too many photographs of tilted angles and funny expressions!

In short, I love photographing weddings and it shows in how I interact with people and in the photographs themselves. If you would like a quote, have any questions, or simply want to find out if I am free on your day, please call or email me directly.

Congratulations on your engagement!
